I have a 87 Turbo 5 speed and ive noticed that when i give the car alot of gas and shift into second, the gears grind a bit but it goes into gear and doesnt pop out,,, and when downshfting it is hard to go into 1st and 2nd.. ive also seen that my slave cylinder has had brake fluid on it and ive already replaced the master cylinder so i was worrying it might be the gears slipping..(or broken__) so should i replace the slave cylinder and change the tranny fluid too with fully syntethic will that help... any help is appreciated.. thanks:1zhelp:

Have you pulled your shifter out and looked at the condition of the bushings? What kind of tranny fluid are you running?

If only 2nd gear grinds, only second gear is bad. 1st should be hard to downshit. You aren't really supposed to do it unless stopped.

The synchronizer known often as blocker rings has pointed teeth on top. Those hold it in gear. As you grind more and more, the pointed teeth can not hold it in gear, and it will start to come out.

A good fluid is always a good start.

if its grinding, the redline will only hide the problem. the trans needs to be rebuilt. The syncros are worn out.

LOL at downshit!! :biglaugh:

I agree with the Redline MT-90... took the advice of JDub and tried it, good stuff. Tranny in general just shifts smoother.

True, but if I get another 50K miles out of it with the new gear oil, why not?
