well im in the process of rebuilding my motor, and i just took the cams off and i found out that under the bearing caps to hold down the cams are all scored up even the cams too, would a machine shop be able to fix it, or should i just go to the junk yard and get another set of cams and cam caps?

A machine shop should be able to fix this for you, depending on how bad it is. But if you can get cams and caps for cheap, do that. just make sure everything is well in spec.

i can take pics tomorrow, just wondering cause i never seen it like that before, the head is fine, just the cam and the cam caps are scored, like a nice heavy line, i had worked with couple toyota and honda and even nissans and never seen this, i seen soft marks that doesnt affect anything but, this is where my finger nail will stay in the groove.

so pics will be up tomorrow, thanks for the replys

I had similar marks on my 7mgte engine when I tore it apart, it may be useable just ask a machine shop , they can line bore it , but if it is to deep its useless... you will need a new head and cams...

you cant put any cam caps from any head , when a head is casted the cam caps are drill and line bored while part of the head then they are cut away , so cam caps from another head are not interchangable...

Plastigauge ? I recall the TSRM mentioning "replace if they are out of spec".

Caps are numbered on top too. Double check to ensure they're in order.

If this were my predicament I would want to measure before doing any deciding.
