Getting exhaust housing off of a stock ct26....

WTF! Like honestly, how do people do it? I remeber back in the good old days taking apart mitsubishi turbos, you would just need to heat the center section and the 2 pieces would almost come apart instantely. Any help you guys can give me for taking this Mudder fudder apart? Like honestly this is lame.

dude, have you looked at where the compressor wheel sits? it is held together by lkike some mad jdm shit.

I remember the first time I tore apart a CT26.

Frusteration at its' finest.

BTW, I ended up using a sledgehammer as well. :biglaugh:

Make a screw jack. 2 to 3 threaded rods with long nuts (actually spacers or standoffs) and slowly push it apart. No muss, no fuss and it comes apart without beating on it. I used 3 separate screw jacks and it came apart like butter.

Good Lord, I had that bassackward. 1 Spacer per jack and 2 bolts. 6 years since I had to pop a turbine housing off. Slowly extend the bolts from the spacer and the SOB will come right off.

Could have, but purposely did not to illustrate a point, info on the 'net is worth what you pay for it. I generally don't post unless I know what I'm talking about and it's been so long since I tore that housing off that I forgot how I got it off. Wrote my reply (that I thought made sense) and realised I was nuts and rewrote it but left the original up to illustrate why it's so important to know the source too!

For any one who reads the tail of this post:

-Heat the rear lip of the exhaust housing, making sure more heat is aimed at the housing than the center section

-Take a small, SHARP chisle and work your way around the housing.
