Some may have read the thread from the Pinks post about putting together a community effort drag car that would have Supramania.com in large letters down the sides. Enough people showed interest that I decided to go ahead with the idea using my mock up car, a 87 hardtop 5 speed turbo, as the base. I know many thought it would be fun to see something like this on pinks, but I could see this being a more ongoing thing than that. Make it fast, make it look good, and keep it going for sometime to come. I can see it at Supra meets like Chi07, TX2007, NOPI, SILV, and others. With the name of the forum down the side, it would be like all of ours car.

Anyone who wants to help out is very welcome to do so, anyone who wants to donate money and or parts, I will make sure full credit is given. One pannel of the car or underside of the hood will have a "Thanks to" list of all who helped and donated.

Paypal Donations can be made to rschubert69@sbcglobal.com
I will keep a running balance of what donated money or parts are used for.

Thank you all,

Rich

Sounds like a good idea. but honestly i think you should try and get a sponsor from someone so it would be a little cheaper on the parts side of things. if your going to make a drag car then it would need a few pennies put into it. turbo costs a lot and all the other things and i dont think people would throw down any big reasonable donations to get this car where people want it to be. unless you plan on pretty much making it Your car and spend your money for a lot of things and say its Everyones car.
but good luck with it. it woiuld be pretty cool.

no way, if everyone were to go into their pay pals and take out that little bit that was left over since your last purchase that has been sitting there for months, ya know the little bit you were gonna put towards shipping, or a tiny useless item......DONATE IT!!!!!!! the only way this will work is IF we all come together. Im sure alll those parts people have laying around, or have been trying to sell forever would help tremendously. I know i have $10 in the ol' paypal i can send. No more whining about how this isn't going to work......THINK POSITIVE!!! IT CAN HAPPEN!

(edit: yeah and a sponsor wouldn't hurt)

Ok.. im in! You should make a list of things you need. (I know cash is good) but you never know what someone has hanging arround. The bigest thing I can offer is when you are ready to letter the car I will do the vinyl or color graphics. :) Post a "before" pic of the car.

I will make a list of things needed at the top that I will update as needed. First things is, I would like opinions on keeping the car 5 speed or going auto. For now it will remain 5 speed but I would like to think about the future direction. It will stay 7m powered. And as each of you post please also think of a name for the car.

heh. sounds like a fantastic way to get your car paid for....

that said, you could always buy my caged brown car as a starting point...i'd even give a discount if it was for a "community" thing...

How much of a discount. me and Hellslegion were looking for a community car a few months ago.

I am glad to see you stepping up and accepting this position.
Sort of funny that the Doc mentioned it...(awesome way to get your car paid for) LOL. ;) It's true...but at the same time, it will be the "communities". Just...You will be the lucky one to drive the car and keep it in your driveway. :(

Anyways: Before we start jumping the gun on donations, I think there are a few things that we need to factor in from the get-go.

Some basics: Do you have ANY idea what turbo setup you are going with?
Are you planning to cage it, do any hardcore internal work?

We need to, first and foremost, lay out some sort of blue print. Not to exact detail, but just the basics as listed above for a starting point.

As for sticking manual or switching to Auto...I will have to side with Auto on this one. :) NOT because I own one ;)...but because it IS more consistent, if you're betting big bunches of money, you don't want that chance in the back of your head that you could miss a gear, it will shift itself quicker than anyone could ever shift, and the best part, you get to build all that boost off the line. :)

If we decide to go Auto, I don't think it will be completely necessary to go for Godzilla's hairdryer type deal. Something like a GT35/40R based, or...or, (throw some ideas out).

Anyway, with a good built/strong auto tranny and a medium frame turbo, we should be able to pull off 11 second passes no problem.

FYI: Most of the cars that you see on Pinks typically run 12's. :)
A lot of the cars on there are only 13 second cars.

...And in all seriousness, a Supra with an upgraded CT putting down some decent power could hang with a lot of the V8's you see on that show. :D
True story.

I GUARANTTEE I could've beat some of the cars on that show. :icon_surp

MANY Mustangs I see on that show always say something like 300hp without nitrous, 350 with nitrous.

Well, seriously, how many of us here could hang with if not beat something like that! :D

Anyways, I'll be making a donation as well...if not just stopping by one day throughout the building process. :)
