Have I just never heard of it, or why has no-one invented a data logging system that uses a video-out method so you can display the data on your existing screen/dvd player?

Funny you mention that. I am working on an in car computer, to output my MAP-ECU dashboard to my Alpine DVD screen.

I still have my old sony vaio vgn-a290 with a/v out that i retired a while back. i always figured if i go maft pro i might permanently mount that thing under the seat and send the video to a dvd player.
