Gauge cluster issues

Got my 90 running last weekend (bought the shell last year) and half my gauges don't work

it has aftermarket back plates(behind the needles) so I think whoever installed those messed them up.

.. My fuel Gauge and my temp gauge work my speedometer did work(till my buddy poked the needle not realizing there wasn't the clear plastic cover on it)

Is there a way to fix them? I am fairly certain that the cluster is the problem after watching how easy it was to screw up the speedometer

Will an 88 cluster work?

The redline would be different on the tach, you could switch the tach over though. I remember seeing a little bit of info on that floating around here somewhere. besides all of that I don't think you'd have any issues using it.

Plugged in the 88 the Check engine light won't even come on and no gauges at all work
I get the battery light lol

Ok took cluster apart the po had hacked it all to pieces so i am using the 88 cluster....

Gauges still dont work but after diagnosing the cluster found i am not getting voltage to the c8 wire to the cluster...its blue with a orange stripe the tsrm says this wire comes from the IGN fuze .

I have not been able to locate this fuze

Anyone know where it might be?or do i have a broken wire?

Online TEWD shows that to be powered from the gauge fuse by a yellow wire. Brown/orange from IGN is for the charge warning. Connector D pin 2. Both fuses are located in JB1:

Must have gotten my wires confused between pages... The service hints page says
C 8-ground 12v with ignition switch on.... When I give c8 power most of my cluster comes alive
Where does that go? Or rather come from

You're right that C8 is switched power for the gages. Comes from the IG1 side of the ignition switch:

Pull the fuse and check for power there. Can't be the switch...just look how much else it powers.

Then look at connectors 1F, E3, and JB3 (connector 3B). It goes through there:

If you don't want to measure voltage just pull the fuse and ohm between some of those points until you find where it's missing. First check the connectors are seated or cycle them.

I have a power probe and a ect 2000 so voltage testing is the easy part lol

Did Toyota have to bury these connections where they did lol

How would I find connectors 1f and e3 in the tewd?

I am not super good at using it yet... I always get confused when there is a harness and the signal passes between all the wires

I have the ect2000 plugged into the "out" side of where the "gauge" fuze would go... And am checking for its signal with the power probe

I am showing short/grounded circuit there but the fuze is still good and I have 12v on the other side

You want pin 2. If you're not handy with the ECT 2000 use only the Power Probe or a meter...

Ok so I have cycled all the plugs..
No change pulled fuze and checked both sides I have 12 v on one and continuity to ground on the other the c8 pin has nothing

The e3 plug I cannot find tho... There are only 2 blue plugs I can see and neither are 8 pin I have a 16 and a 13 pin

I am more playing around with the ect2000 today than actually using it... It came in the mail this morning I am good with the probe and meter tho
I appreciate your help and patience with me JJ thanks a bunch this is quite the ordeal... I didn't anticipate lying on my head under my dash all morning lol

This week I am going to read through "the book" so I might actually be able to find these things on it... I looked everywhere I could think to look before I asked and was a few pages off

Yeah, that area is a pain to get at. Just be sure you're always measuring the correct thing and you'll find it. Using the TEWD is simply a matter of learning the symbology combined with practice. Good luck...

Ok I have traced the yellow wire on its path from the fuze block to the back of the cluster.....

Everything is fine except it's not c-8.....its a-10
