I had an EGR trouble code, the EGR system appeared to be blocked and after doing some digging found a plate on top of the intake that revealed part of the EGR passageway that was blocked with carbon deposits. Easy fix but could find no info in the shop manual or on this site that mentioned it. I can't even do a search if a search word contains less than 4 letters; such as EGR. How do I get around that?

Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It's in the TSRM.

We are cleaning the intake now and could not get that plate off! Is there a gasket on it and is it reusable? I'd hate to rebuild the motor only to find something silly like this later.

Did you get that plate off afo? If so, what did you find? Could not remember if there was a gasket on that plate, but making one if you damage it should be no problem.
AJ - I could not find that plate in the TSRM, what page is it on?

Yeah,
I went back and took a flat screwdriver and tapped the plate off. It was caked with at least 1/8" of carbon buildup. It does use a paper gasket, which is contained in the rebuild gasket set. Now cleaning the gunk outta the rest of the intake track and all the gasket mating surfaces to put it back together.
I didn't see torque specs in the TSRM so we just used 5 or 6lb....

I am redoing the top end of my motor and I know what ya'll are talking about. Is the gasket for it supposed to be included in the Fel-Pro "Head Set"? I noticed when I took the upper part of the intake manifold off that all the emissions reburn ports were all either mostly or totally blocked on mine as well so I'm gonna do my best to get it like new while the head is in the machine shop.

On top of the "Y" pipe there is a oval shaped plate with 4 bolts. If you don't have one then you have a JDM motor, or at least JDM "Y" pipe. At least I think that's what we're talking about, I don't have one, but I remember the one I took off was kind of plugged up.

Yeah I have one. I was just curious if the gasket for it came with the Fel-Pro "Head Set" normally. I don't know what the gasket would look like so I haven't taken it apart yet. Don't wanna take something apart I can't put back together.

I think it would come in the set. But if not it would be an easy one to make.

I don't know if it's in the felpro headgasket kit, not sure it would be required for a head job, but it was in the rebuild kit. It's just paper, so if it isn't then, make one either from a sheet of paper gasket material or RTV.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it looks like this is on the NA only. Posting this information should help others if they have an EGR trouble code; it would have saved me a lot of time had I known about it.
