funky cruise control

ok so i am having trouble with my cruise control on my 86.5 auto n/a. i go through the steps on how to set it up and when i take my finger off the set accel button, it doesn't kick in, and about 5 seconds after i try and set it, the car down shifts and continues not to maintain speed, it just decels. need help. i want to get this working.

There is a diagnostic procedure in the TSRM I believe.
I also know that the supermonitor runs trouble codes for the CC.

yeah i know,its like rocket science. i need the cc diagnosis for dummies version

Pull codes.

Over time, electrical switches, especially those in a steering wheel simply wear out. The metal contacts are worn down and rub off.

You could have a different problem, which is why you must pull codes.
