fuel pumps need to be kept primed?

Hey people! I was looking into a cheap upgraded fuel pump. I can get a mk4 tt pump for under a 100 shipped. I heard/read that they can hold my planned 500hp .. . I think I need to bump the volts up with a resistor (stock 12, needs 13.5-14).

Anyway, my question is whether or not fuel pumps need to stay primed when you take them out and store them.

Cheers,

tough to say, I've taken apart an old (and I mean OLD) fuel pump that still had fuel in it and the seals where disolved from the fuel.

on the other hand they could shrink and become brittle, ect...

You can't increase voltage with a resistor there bud.....

Thanks bro, I read something somewhere awhile ago. I guess I will have to reread it again. I remember how I guess just remember that you can increase the voltage.

This test compares a MK4 TT pump versus the high flow walbro. The supra pump sucks about twice the current as a Walbro, so upgraded wiring is advised.

looks like walbro is the pick then thanks for that JPEG

I actually got the Walbro Verdict from some other people as well and ordered one. My current setup wont need more than that and it's cheap. Thanks again.
