My shifter has felt alittle loose the last few days, but it wasn't terribly tight as far as slack goes to begin with, and I paid it no real mind. I actually had planned to take the shifter apart tonight when i got home from work and check everything out. Shouldn't have waited!
Going up a very steep (1st gear style all the way up) hill, as i reach the top i go to shift into second, shifter gets into neutral then comes straight out of the seating. Quick onto the brake, get the cars to go around me, and roll back to a spot and park. rip the tools out of the trunk, and start removing the screws and such to check the seating.
What do I see, but all four bolts out of their holes. 2 bolts are half the size of the others, literally torn in half. (both front bolts) It seems due to the added tension and looseness of the seating, that both rear bolts wiggled themselves entirely out of their seatings as well. Thankfully i managed to get both of the shear halves out of their settings, which is not the easiest task, but alittle grease and they came out without issue. Set the bolts at the corners and managed to get it home without incident. On the plus side, the shifter is tighter than ever. On the minus side, I ended up having to call my boss and tell him I was going to have to take the rest of the night off, because it was already 745, i was 20 minutes from work, and close is at 9 (at the time of shifter loss I was running an errand. most days i leave the supra at home and take my civic, but it was such a beauitful day that I took a nice long drive before work and didnt have time to switch cars).
The auto part store is closed, and I have only us standard sizes, ugh. At least it's nothing serious and the driver behind me was paying attention ebnough when i hit the hazard lights to not rear-end me!
