Front Lower Control Arm Bushing Removal Question.

I am in the process of replacing the stock bushings all around with some new poly ones. Everything has been going great until I hit this snag. On the front LCAs I have pushed out the existing rubber and 2 piece sleeves along with it. I line up the new ones with the holes on the LCA and the bushings seem to big to be pressed in. I took a closer look and it seems that there are still sleeves in the holes. I understand that bushings fit it tightly but this may be a little excessive.

Does this sleeve have to be pushed out as well. It's seems like it may come out but I just had to ask before doing. Thanks in advance!

yes you still have to get those sleeves out. Im actually starting this project tomorrow.

I had this same issue. I actually took the bottle jack from my press and put it between the ears of the LCA, then used washers as shims and a big socket that was the same size as the sleeve, then used the bottle jack to push out the sleeves slowly, adjusting the shims to make sure it was pressing evenly.

Be VERY careful that you load it evenly, I bent one ear on the LCA and had to get a new one from a junk yard

I had good luck using a hack saw or similar to cut a slit in the sleeve before attempting to press or rip them out.

If you use a hack saw or sawzall cut barely almost all the way through in 2 spots and then hammer a screw driver or chisel between the arm and the outer sleeve and then they fall right out.

Did the hacksaw trick and it worked. Used a screw driver and one fork of a pickle fork. Thanks guys!

What brand were the new bushings? How was the fit after removing this outer sleeve? Any issues in the 2 years since?
