Not necessarily, depending on how big the leak is I would say yes.
What you're describing does still sound like an exhaust leak.
Have you tried having someone sit in the car and gradually give it gas while you check around the engine bay?

No havent had the chance to yet, in school all day, i get home its dark and i park in street only chance i could get a real look is on the weekends.
I did just get back from school now and the ride back i listened and theres definately no ticking sound in the engine.

The last time i had a problem like this i tried having someone rev while i listen and it was hard for me to find out where its coming from. Its a bit louder now so im guessing its going ot be even harder to try now but ill give it a shot once my pops gets home. BTW thanks for quick replies so far :icon_surp , other ideas?

You might check the EGR Coolant plate (http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/em/EM_40.html, this is at the back of the head) to make sure it is on there tight, though with eight bolts holding it on there I've never seen one come loose. Also check the exhaust manifold bolts to make sure there tight. It is also possible that someone has swapped in a JDM 7MGTE engine. In which case the EGR equipment will be removed and in place of the EGR cooler it will have an EGR block off plate which could come loose leaking exhaust leak.

<edit> lagged beat me to it

egr cooler plate leak is baaack! Did hg job last summer, car sounded good until december then the sound game back and the plate is leaking again. What does it mean when the egr cooler plate screws keep backing out? (i tightened them about 3 times since they backed out and they keep backing out)
