Finished 2jz swap: The epic adventure Celica

It all started when my buddy and his brother found a 1984 celica gts for 500$. They both went in half and half, practically nothing for a car. She ran great and was a truly fun machine. Then one day I find a 2jz for sale for about 300 and i call them up jokingly and asked them if they wanted to get it for their celica. I dont know how but i convinced him to buy the motor. The engine was removed and sold,(on a side note my buddy almost died, chain broke upon removing the 22re and the engine hoist hit my buddy in the chest. Only big ass bruise came of it) And so the adventure began, my buddy and his bro leading the way. Unfortunately, about halfway through the swap my buddy left for army basic training. So, while it wasn't my buddies bro decision to start the swap, it was going to be his job to finish it. i tried to help when i could.

the old 22r

The new(ish)- 2jz from 1994 sc300

First issue we had was motor mounts. After alot of trial and error :3d_frown: we finally got the right ones made :biglaugh:
First ones we got were for a 22re truck for the 2jz swap. WE figured we could somehow come up with new ones by using these as trial and error

After some work my buddies bro is a genious and he figured out how to make the new motor mounts using math.


Finally got it right

Had to move things to access the rearmost mounting holes on the driver's side, and the holes ended up being closer together. For this reason I had to drill an extra hole on the mounts to get them to fit, however they did work. Slightly high angle and a little high up, but not bad.

We decided to use the stock w58 tranmission, matched it with an ebay 2jz/w58 bellhousing (can also be found on driftmotion.com). ACT clutch, fidanza flywheel.
Yes we got this to fit in the stock mounting position. meaning we were able to use the same driveshaft.

Next up was the radiator. We had to cut out part of the top frame to fit in the radiator. Currently making another radiator to fit a little bit better than the one in this picture.

Wiring was all done by my buddies bro. He has all documents on those so if your interested to know about it pm me and ill send you contact info.
Now as for the finally finished project.

Anybody know if there are any structural reasons to not do this? I've contemplated doing it to fit my PWR and JZ combo in my Mk3... would have to scoot the AC condenser forward if I wanted to do it though.

If it was my vehicle I wouldn't do it. but since it wasn't my car they went ahead and did this. I would just cut out the part for the rad cap.

Hmm, if I were to do it, I would weld in some bracing elsewhere to reconnect things. Currently contemplating a v-mount actually... We'll see though.
