Is there any way to stop the fan from running when the engine is running? I am trying to find an exhaust leak and the fan is really throwing me off.

Use a piece of heater hose(2ft long or so), hold it to your year and move it around. It really helps to find a leak that way, at least for me.

I wouldn't try to "hold back" the fan while it is spinning. It is a clutch fan and might do some damage.

Like the other said, take it off and put the nuts back on the pulley or use some hose to listen.

Thanks for the sugestions. I was just curious if there is any simpler way to disable clutch fans.
I am really going nuts here. Something gets me "high"in my supra. I just cant find what it is. Today I stuck a sock in my exhaust(to raise pressure) and with a hose I was unable to find anything. I also put a carbon monoxide detector in my car and it does not beep. What else could get me "high"? Usually it hapens on the highway. I sometimes notice a strong exhaust odor when I deaccelerate.

You could have a leak in the rear deck area and the fumes are comming in. Did you check out under the car to see if there are any leaks in the exhaust pipes?

I have just redone my rear deck. There are no holes there. I was under my car checking inch by inch from the exhaust manifold to the exhaust tip and there was no leak.
I just did some tests. That damn smell comes in when I drop from anything above 4k RPM to below 3k RPM at highway speeds. Here is the WIERD part. It is most noticeable when I have my window open. I am clueless, "high" and very frustrated....
Could it be something other than an exhaust leak?

Did you check around the EGR and the EGR cooler on the back of the head? Those also have exhaust running thru them.

Have you checked all the exhaust connections from your manifold back? A friend of mine lost a bolt once in his Evo VIII, for the down pipe. His car would get you higher than astronout feces.
