I just got back for a smog test only place. I have been reading peoples post on failed smog but need a bit of help.
The car is an 87 non turbo with stock header with no pre cat I put a friends Chevy s10 cat on that has been ran one time. (he used it on his 240 to pass smog and he did) with a stock turbo cat back with the two tip muffler. I have no codes I just put a new engine harness on because the knock sensor was cut on the old one and the car is running fine after that.

%co2= 11.30 at 15mph
%co2= 10.99 at 25mph

%02= 0.07 at 15
%02= 0.06 at 25

HC= 427 at 15 max is 106
HC= 443 at 25 max is 58

CO= 4.75 at 15 max is 0.49
CO= 5.18 at 25 max is 0.40

NO= 0225 at 15 max is 762
NO= 0327 at 25 max is 701

The guy said I had to much gas not getting burned or something he was veg with me.
Also (Thermostatic Air Cleaner) has a NOT APPL the (Air Injection) has NOT APPL and the (EGR Functional Test) has a NOT APPL by it. If anyone would have any suggestion let me know.

I'll say about 90% supra failed bcuz of the 20 year old cat and you're not throwing any codes. New set of plugs/wires will help also.

I noticed you had a thread where you were having trouble getting the timing right. Did you get that properly sorted?

I also saw a thread where you had some GTE injectors waiting for install. You have not installed them correct?

Are you also sure you have no codes?

Driving, octane, or a new converter isn't going to fix that. The car is broken.

I just read about your post on how to check the 02 sensor I am going to heat it up and check it with my multimeter. I just was thinking about the time i drove from a friends house with my O2 sensor not plunged in and I had no codes and and the car drove OK but had bad gas mpg.

Oh yea I set the timing right and all that never put gte injectors on my car its only a ge. The only code I have after installing the new wiring harness is the no starter signal.

Won't hurt to check the sensor I but doubt it's the culprit. Not only does that level of richness fall outside the default condition, the sensor doesn't have that kind off authority even when it's working. The engine for sure isn't in fuel control though.
