Any downsides on using exhaust shield (header) wrapping on intake tubing that is exposed to high temperatures?
What about wrapping a stack of aluminium foil around it, that should keep the heat away.

Foil alone isn't that effective.
I have used, if you can find them still) the old roll-up silver sun shades.
They have the foil reflective part, plus a layer of foam.

I just make a pattern from paper, or poster stock.
(it's a lot easier to make corrections on a paper pattern,
than it is to ruin a piece of heat sheild material)
And once it is right, trace the pattern on the material, and cut it out.
Then use a good quality clear packing tape to hold it in place.
I not only cover up the intake tubing,
but also the bottom side of the flapper meter.
Here I use clear silicone to bond the material on.

I have tried the Cooltec self adheasive mat, but have had trouble with it staying in place.
Their adveasive sucks (not to be confused with 'sticks').
So now I am back to sealing seams with clear packing tape, and using silicone to bond it onto what ever I am insulating.

My headers roasted the firewall insulation, so I made a Cooltec barrier just in that area.
Used silicone & short screws to hold it in place.

I tried the do it yourself ceramic coating from TecLine coatings
(the water based type)
but it flaked off my aluminum elbow going into my 70mm BBK throttle in about a week.
So it was re-sand blasted, and coated with VHT header coat, and will get a seperate heat shield.
