exhaust pipe gaskets

i have a 3in blitz cat back exhaust and i want to know if you put gaskets between the flanges. Looking at the exhaust i can see that one side of the flanged portion is recessed as if a doughnut should go there.

if i need them, and i think i do, where do you people get them from?
i went to pep boys and they want $10 per gasket, for a 3in with 2 bolt holes flat gasket.

where can i buy exhaust gasket material if that is a better way to go?

do most of you run without gaskets?

I got mine for a steal from a local performance shop for like $10 for two of em I think. It might have been more, I can't remember. But they are metal gaskets (magnetic anyway) and 3" with 2 bolt

the gaskets i was looking at was made from exhaust manifold gasket material.
Does that sound about right or was yours actually a metal gasket?


side question
does the silencer cause much restriction or is it almost nothing?
