engine temps...

The situation is; my car will not warm up. Now that it's winter time, the water temp gauge won't go over the 1/5 mark (there's isn't a mark). Even after driving for 20 min, then gitting into the throttle some, it still won't warm up over 1/5. Is this good or bad?

grab an infrared thermometer and see if it's really running cold. Our guage is very inaccurate and doesn't tell you the temperature...

7M's generally run pretty hot.

Not gettign to operating temp is bad. Your oil will turn to sludge quicker, possilbility of staying in open loop, and your motor will wear quicker.

hm... any way to make it warm up more? is there a higher-temp thermostat i can aquire?

the thing is... it's a stock cooling system too, although the water pump and rad. are new... i'm just wondering what people w/ koyo, or other high performance radiators do during the winter

i may do this, but now, i don't really see the need. I know what area is "operating temp." on my gauge (about 3/7 mark), but if it's cold out, it won't rise above 1/5 :icon_conf

^ That's a big negaive... it'd be fine until it started getting hot and you had to stop to put it back on.

It's a lot easier if you just have to flip a switch. :icon_bigg

Thermostat could be sticking... have you replaced it?

Sounds like you have no stat or its stuck open.

how do you know its cold for sure? have your tried using your heater latley? seee how air feels coming out of your vents. then change your thermostat, the factory stat is 190* i believe.

I was implying that the guage/sensor may be busted, so you should check the actual temperature via infrared thermometer. It's happened to me before.

i'm just saying... i can tell it's not the sensor... just from feedback the car gives me, that and common sense

after driving it have u opened the hood and checked the radiator hoses to see if they warm...like most of the guys are saying the guage is probably busted.....check the stat its just 2 screws good luck :aigo:

^Lol. I'd like to see the supra that runs cold due to a BHG, heh. I'm with the other guys on this, check the t-stat and thermo sensor. Now would be a good time (and a good reason) to get an aftermarket water temp gauge .
