I remember reading that when rebuilding a 7M your should put a new oil pump in. I am wondering, is this really necessary? What wears out in an oil pump?

i think the main reason is just that oiling is one of the issues of the 7m.. so leaving less room for error is the way i see it.

It's just good insurance. You pay $1,500 and up for a full rebuild it just kind of makies sense. Now if your just half-assing it by re-ringing and honing the cylinders then maybe you want to chance it. The pump is not known to be particularly failure prone or anything.

rod knock is usually the reason for a rebuild, and it throws metal into your oil system...

guess where those particles hit first...

Yeah the oil pump is something you should really replaice when rebuilding a motor. I left this out on my first build, very stupid and it almost cost me. The oil pump seized, luckily i caught it in time, well enough time that it didnt destroy everything.

oh come on... it's a disaster waiting to happen.

long stroke, high oil pump intake, and BHG are all fighting against it.

most of us learned...the hard way. If not, we where lucky we found all the info in time...

Yes, many did learn the hard way that they don't know what they are doing.

And a long stroke has what to do with it? Since 3.6 inch stroke is certainly not long?

compared to bore and the RPM the engine is capable off (not to mention boost pressures)

I got rod knock after my turbo decided to blow....badly, at high speed (don't ask). no oil = rod knock...
