:1zhelp:so recently i picked up a 86.5 with 91 engine tranny and rear end. i drove it for a couple of days and i spun my rod bearings, i put new brearings in and checked the crank i started the car up and for about 20 mins then knocking again. i found water in my oil so i took off the head and am getting ready to put in a new head gasket. the pistons and head look fine. could the knocking be from head gasket?:1zhelp:

Once you get coolant to the bearings oil won't stick to them, so it's metal to metal, probably why you spun the bearings the first time. unless you ran low on oil or was wingin' it pretty hard in to corners, hard braking, usally the rod bearnings will go first from oil starvation. I would consider a complete rebuild, especially if you're doing the HG anyway.
