Just wondering if anybody has bought a car from Ebay. I just bought my 1990 supra from Ebay and got completely screwed by the guy. He listed is as needs an alignment, and when I saw the car the wheels were leaned over and the subframe was jacked. He told me after the fact that he let a friend borrow the car and he ran it into a ditch. His friend then brought the car back on a flatbed truck because it wasnt driveable. The odometer didn't work either which also wasnt mentioned. So make sure you look before you buy a car off of ebay. Oh yeah when I told the guy it wasnt how he listed it he said "thats the chance you take when you buy something on ebay."

you just gotta make sure that you see the car before you buy it i guess. I already gave him a deposit so i didnt want to loose it. I put the car on jacks and the i can move the left wheel around. It moves at the ball joints but the nuts are tight.

i had a horrible experience with the guy i bought my supra from on ebay.

That sucks dude. Hopefully mine wont be that bad. He also didnt tell me till i drove 3 and a half hours to get there that he didnt have the title. I'm going through ebay and pay pal with disputes because the car wasnt as listed i guess ill see what happens. He also said that there was a possible small leak in a radiator hose, when I started it up the radiator poured coolant out and you could easily see where it was coming from up top. I didnt see that before I bought it because it needed a starter.

Where is the radiator leaking? Does it look like the top has seperated? Thats what my radiator did when I poped the HG. You need to run from this deal.

Yeah thats what i figured. I talked to them today and the guy told me to file a claim. He said I should be able to get something done. If not through pay pal I would have to through other legal means. The guy is in the military and so am I so it shouldnt be too hard. The car is deffinitely not like he listed it thats for sure. Another thing through ebay is that he listed it with 10,000 less miles that were on the car and the odometer doesn't work. There is actually a whole section for that in ebay.

If you allready gave him the rest of the cash, then it sounds like you are all done. Paypal or ebay cant get you your cash back. You should have not paid the cash and fought with paypal to get the deposit back. The guy is not going to give you anything back, he allready told you thats the chance you take for buying on ebay..

Sorry to hear this happened. Can you do the repair work yourself? You should post up a list of what you need. Members here are helpfull.

i can do the work myself. im hoping that its just the ball joints bad after i looked at it. i can move the tire all over the place, and all of the movement looks like its in the ball joints, but the nuts are tight, so they need to be changed. Nothing else looks bent. the thing is the subframe is messed up where the eccentric bolt goes for the front lower control arm. the hole there is messed up, its hard to explain ill have to take a pic of it. where is a good place to get a radiator from? I checked the right side, that wheel looked worse when it was on the ground, but it doesnnt have any play in it like the other side did, and it was clearly hit on the left side because thats where the bumber was messed up. thanks.

I bought my wifes car off of ebay from a guy in Wisconsin, and I would give it a 8 out of 10 as far as a smooth transaction goes. The car was exactly as described. It ended up having a few mechanical problems though. It still drove from Wisconsin to Alabama with no troubles though.

I bought my car from Autotrader from a guy in Utah. He met me in St.Louis Missouiri and I drove it back to Alabama. It went as smooth as could be expected. I think you just have to watch their ebay ratings, and check their feedback from other buyers. I also called and talked to each person I bought from at least twice to make sure they were who they said they were and that they were representing the car to the best of their knowledge.

cliffs: I didnt get screwed. Ask questions. Check feedback on sellers. Sacrifice a virgin and hope for the best.

That sucks, sorry about that. I wouldn't have given him dick and then fought it out with paypal to get the deposit back. That is why I ALWAYS select credit card payment thru paypal, they try and discourage it for many reason, one being they don't want you to be able to dispute the charge back to them, which is what I would have done had they not reversed the payment back to me. Sounds like you are pretty much sol on teh balance paid in cash, unless you want to have a family friend lawyer send a nasty demand for payment letter....

How did you pay for this car?

When did you pay for this car?

And the bigger question, WHY did you pay for this car?

Do you still not have the title? If so you DON'T own the car. Without a title, a car (this age) is worthless.
