Stock HG, new stock headbolts, 90 ft-lbs of torque.

I did the above, except I milled the head and torqued to 105 ft-lbs. Held up fine to an upgraded (-60) CT 26 at 21-22 PSI.

FEL PRO IS the stock Toyota gasket. Look at country of origin on the gasket list. HG is made in Japan and is/was the only gasket made in Japan.

to quote yoda, the gte and ge heads share the same head bolts.

and advanced auto has the kit for 225 with the tax included. yoda wants damn near 500.

iirc, there was a write up here, but im a weardo and do things oddly. ill post a small quick write up for people doing it this way very soon.

You torqued the stock bolts to 105ft/lbs!?!?!?!?

I refuse to admit this whole thread even exists. :runaway:

Actually I did but it was a mistake. Meant to stop at 95 on the first bolt of the 4th pass and my foot slipped and I torqued to 105. I decided to torque the rest of them to that value rather than back the first one off. I never recommend that high because it frankly scared the shit out of me when I was tightening them. I had 2 of the bolts stretch and completely release torque until I torqued them to 105 again and they held. Like I said, it was an accident, I don't recommend but I did do it and it worked fine for me.

Hylomar Blue.... Is Hylomar Aerosol the same or is it a different beast all together? If the Blue isn't available in a spray how do you ensure a nice, thin, and above all, even coat?

Anyone know of a shop in CO which carries it?

I'd go 75 ft/lbs and no higher...ARP recommends 75 ft/lbs (w/ moly) on their head bolts when used on an aluminum head. They back off the 85 ft/lbs normally specified in this case due to the heat expansion rate of aluminum. Toyota head bolts should be no different...other than the strength of the bolt.

Use moly on the Toyota bolts and chase the threads in the head. I torque in 10-15 ft/lb increments.

I just read all of MDC's walk through. One thought, if you do get an earplug stuck in one of the threaded holes try a straightened fish hook to pull it out... it'll probably spare you a lot of unnecessary hassle.

How deep are the threaded holes anyway?

i am using stock head bolts. new ones. -

stupid question time......

if your were to order a new head bolt kit, dont you think they would come with washers?

kit they sent me is part # 90110-12002. 14 brand spankin new bolts, but no washers?

wtf?????

i do plan to chase every thread hole. im not a fool. like i said earlier, im just not used to dohc engines. im used to sbc v8's and hei distributors. hand me a carb and ill show you a few tricks. hand me injectors and ill show you how to install them the right way. time and money are my only issues at the time.

and i am using a fel-pro/stock hg. any words on using a sealer like copper seal or disk brake quiet? ive used the brake quiet before on abc v8's with no issue. 7m is a lil diffrent.

and trust me, if my fiancee were not expecting my kid, id do it the right way!!

oh, yeah, did i mention im a soon to be daddy!!!!!!!!!!!

"whats chasing a thread" = drunken motor head talking about running a tap through every threaded hole in the area.

ok, after work today i finally got to taking the engine apart. tried folling mdc's and every other walkthrought to the T! news is both good and maybe a lil bad, but i am botherd by a few things.

1. the oil lines on the bottom of the turbo wouldnt come loose after unbolting and trying to pry free(and yes, i was very gentle with it.)

2. threootle body in the gasket kit didnt match the one on there already. the hole looked like it was intended for a geo metro. lil trimming and cleaning and gasket maker and all is better.

3. while unpluggin the injectors they turned a lil bit. im kinda worried there. my kit came with 6 o rings, but it dont say if its for injectors or what. to add to that, i dont think i quite remeber the order for the injectors.

anyone know the injector order/color order?

and first thing it back to assembly............. yeah.
