Differences Between pre 89 and 89+ Armrests??

So what exactly are the differences? are they interchangeable? If not what is need to make it happen?

They're the same size, you should not have a problem swapping it.

the armrest are the same. it's the center console tht's different. I have the shallow one with the airbag computer under it.

That's only for cars with airbags though (90+ USA, 92 Canada), so it's not a pre-89/89+ change.

The main differences for the lids are that the 89+ ones have the provisions for the cup holder, but they are interchangable.

i had an 88 with a cup holder, but i couldnt get the lid to fit my other 88.

I modified the cupholder from a later model to fit my 87. It's been awhile but as I recall it was a matter of flipping over the cupholder and putting it on upside down inside the consloe so you could close the armrest.

If you want I'll take a pic of it so you can figure it out.
