But if your thinking of trying a truck LSD, forget it,
unless you have a machine shop in your pocket.
The truck LSDs do not have groves for the retaining rings on our output shafts.
Their axles are retained at the other end, out by the wheel (solid axle).

It may be possible to take one apart, and machine the groves in.
But I have never tried it.

You mean the grooves for the C clips? I've dismantled plenty of 8 in trucks, but figured I'd ask before I take apart a diff just to learn, but... learning's ALWAYS good. Still, any one have pics cause I'm pressed for time this weekend, gotta yank the good motor outta my project and put it in my daily. Plus it's gonna be cold...

oh, and you say the axle on the trucks are retained out towards the wheel? Similar to a Ford 9 in? Man, maybe I'm thinking crazy cause it has been some years since I've done the 4wd thing, but I coulda swore that the mini trucks rocked c clip retainers too, but maybe I'm getting them confused with land cruisers... anyone else?

EDIT: I'm Dumb, was thinking Land cruisers, you're right, they got the four bolt flange at the end of the axle tube iirc. Sorry.

Hmmmmm...

Besides not being able to retain the stub axles, the truck diffs are different dimensions. The ring gear mounting flange is not the same distance from the bearing shoulders. This means you can bolt the ring on to the truck locker but it will not line up with the pinion once fitted into the IRS case. To get it to fit would require machining and a lot of labor.
