i'm bad, i'm nationwide
Ok, went to amarillo this morning to pick up a cherry picker to start working on my supe.Made it over to harbor freight where i think i'm gonna pick up just the hoist formaybe a couple of hundred dollars.Get there, and there are like a hundred pickups lined up around the block!great, i happen to show up during the great outdoors sale or something!find my hoist, on sale for like 89 bucks...great, have a little change, right?then i see the wire welder next to it, for 90 bucks....well, i just saved half on the picker, right?so of course i picked it up!wow, roller seat for 20? bench grinder for 45? table vise for 29...ok
toss it in!my 189 cherry picker is now like 260.

then i went to sears. while the old lady was shopping for clothes, i of course wandered into the man toy store(if you have to ask....).
hey, nice 33 gal air compressor for like 289, with tools! um...ok...as long as i'm here, the 280 pc hand tool set is like 199 on sale, the one that has actual wrenches and ratchers, and stuff...not those thousands of little pieces you never use that they throw in to make piece count look big.well ive gone this far,why not that nice 5pc plier set, the 24piece screwdriver set...and...and ...and..

that damn cherry picker has cost me like 900 bucks so far....

.........is this what happens to women in shoe stores?

I hear you about Harbor Freight. I CAN'T just buy what I need.

'Ooooohhhh my angle grinder wheel 10 packs are $10...can't pass that up. Oh, sweet, I could use another chipping hammer. Motorcycle jack on sale?! I don't have one...2034057lb winch for $100!? DEAL! Oh sweet, giant metric sockets for dirt cheap..."

Then I finally throw the $3.00 welding gloves I came for into my cart.

"oooooo air tools...."

Sears is worse. 1,080 piece tool set on sale, available for in store pickup....hmmm....where's the checkbook.

youo know the guys, snap-on, mac, matco...

I was looking at getting Snap-On but hella expensive!! So I was gonna go w/ harbor but my dad says all their stuff is junk. I didn't feel like buying tools twice so I decided on Craftsman, good quality and a reasonable price. I consider tools an investment.

it was a ggod call on your oldmans part,.i'd use em for stuff like the cherrypicker i bought today, but for hand tools, it's hard to beat craftsman, as good as the dudes in vans, but cheaper, plus on rare occasion you do break one, any sears'll replace it, mo questions asked(not even when i broke the half inch breaker bar...with a 5 ft cheater bar....vw front wheel bngs FTL)
without having to wait for van guy to show back up...

i spent 800 bucks on a shitty ass tool set for school but as long as it gets me through school thats all that matters, and ive heard craftsman industrial is forged in the same plant that snap on is forged in just one gets stamped craftsman the other is snap on.

I keep getting reminded of the clip with the british troops in Iraq singing the "is this the way to amarillo" when I see this thread.

Yes part of owning a mk3 is the tools keep piling up, I spent a fair bit on tooling up for various jobs, only to use them once or twice, nothing like using fresh new tools, makes u feel like a pro and know what your doing.

yeah i was just going to rent the picker, but pull 5mout of parts car, pull bad 5m from stepdaughters car, make the swap, then on to the v8 projects, i could justify spending the money on buying one...besdides, it was on sale...right?(and thats where the trouble started...)
