i found out that there was a leak somewhere in my horribly-put-together intake system, basically i want to throw a pipe on the end of the filter and stick it on, but i'm wondering what i'd need to make this work (i'm pretty sure i'd have to fab it to fit the sensors and stuff into it). but should this be pretty simple?

here's kinda an idea of what i'm aiming for, except this is a 1jz and it's not very relevant, but you get the idea

EDIT

alright, i found the parts i needed and will be getting them cut and beveled to fit tomorrow, here's an idea of what it'll look like

EDIT

IT'S FINISHED.... ran me about 34$ and it was totally worth it. can't say that i feel any HP gains but it feels nicer (could be in my head) and the sound w/o the resonator isn't noticeably different except MAYYYBE at higher rpms. new pics up

alright well i went out and tried to find the parts that i needed to replace, i'm pretty much removing the pipes that connect the AFM to the throttle body, with a straight metal/steel pipe. i can't find the hoses to hold the pipes together anywhere locally, and nearly resorted to plumbing supplies, but couldn't find any that fit correctly. let me get some pics of why i'm doing this, lol

((the reason i'm doing this is so if anything goes wrong, i can revert to the stock parts, b/c i'm gonna have to cut some of the piping))

as you can see, the majority of the one piece was duct taped by the previous owner.. and in the other picture, you can see how some of it was apparently sucked into the pathway where the air passes, taking up like 1/2 the space.. lol

if any of you guys have these parts to spare, i will pay via paypal asap if you can send them, excluding the resonator, i'm gonna go commando style, haha :naughty:

ghetto spec, better now the afm is gooonne. Only bad thing about the metal intake is it sounds like you have a BOV on high rpms shifts.

You need to clean that air filter and buy some small light brass brushes or scotchbrite or something and clean that engine and bay up. Your set up looks good but to be honest that blue connection looks temporary and I'm not trying to bust your chops but a clean engine shows that you really spend the time it takes to upkeep your auto. Nice work just the same though. Your'e on the right track.

haha yea... the shop i went to was out of the black... and it's like a 40 minute drive back so it might be awhile til i fix that, i bought some high temp paint and i might just paint the whole setup black, not sure that'd look good though.

finally it's finished, pics at top as well. spent about 34$ in total

my bad dude. Those pics are better than the first ones. I take it back on the blue connection. I see you have the infamous stick holding up your hood.
I use the handle end of a fishing pole. It helps me relax. Riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

What year auto is this and did you have wires sticking out of your fender well strut mounts....., because I do and have thought about removing them. But I don't want to mess with the wires. Is why I ask. Looks good man. You just need to port air to the filter now. If you haven't already.

thanks..kinda crappy angle to see everything. got a header on the other side. i was going to polish the intake, but after about 10 hours of sanding & polishing; it was better for me to just get the whole thing powder-coated. was only like $60 & it will hold up better to wear & tear.
