My machinist has a 7m crank that he's going to clean up for me. My old one had a keyway that was wobbled out due to a loose pulley. He's says he's going to turn both rod and main journals ten thousands to clean it up. The crank he has has a bad rod journal, and a questional main journal. He ordered a set of Clevite rod & main bearings to match.
Question is should I trust the machine work being performed, or double check the measurments. Would plastiguage be suffice, or would I need some kind of precision tool... which I don't have. WWSMD??
P.S. He tried welding up my old crank keyway, but everytime he tries to cut a new keyway the weld flakes off. He's using the same welding machine that they use to weld new material on a journal to build up before the machine it down.
Plus the old crank I had was out of round where the pulley wobbled. Apperently the pulley was wobbling for a good while.
