I have an automatic transmission in a 91 7MGTE.

The housing is cracked on the right hand side little over half way back.

Does anyone know if the housing can be welded?

Just looking to see if anyone has run into this before and if welding has been tried.

Do I just need to start looking for a replacement?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the replys.

I'll start looking now for a replacement.

FWIW I spoke to a buddy at work today that has welded a trannie before. His procedure is to completely disassemble the thing, clean it inside and out then bake it to get all the oil out of the metal which also preheats it to be able to weld it.

Anyway, no time for all that. Used trannie here I come.:icon_razz

I picked up the car two years ago. It was half way through a turbo upgrade.
I finished it up with other upgrades. I have approx. 2K miles on it right now.

It was apparently cracked when I got it because there has always been some fluid leaking in that area. Just decided to tackle it now.

Currently @ 307 WHP @ 11 psi. Unable to boost any higher due to burning excessive amount of oil ...... the other problem I need to get resolved pronto.

Back to the crack, no telling what might have caused it. The engine when the other guy had it was basically stock so, its not due to excessive HP.
