So we're short a car, and I might need to get the Supie up and running soon than later, which means valve seal replacement on the old motor. What should I expect to pay?

Does anybody local have a recommendation on a shop in Louisville to do it?

BTW, I have a set of Toyota seals in my garage, but they are a couple of years old and I noticed they have tarnished just a bit in the original bag they came in. Are they still usable?

Hey Kurt, are the valve stem seals from Toyota Viton or Rubber? You may want to opt for Viton seals if the ones you have are rubber as they will last longer. Sorry, but I don't know a price specifically for what they would charge but I would *guess* between 100-150 bucks.

Not sure if they are rubber or viton, but I'm guessing rubber. They came with the original gasket set for the BHG job I did just after I bought the car, and the complete set came from my local Toyota dealership.

The shop that did the head work just used whatever seals they had, because I forgot to drop them off with the head... Arggg

if i can find the list that Jose made me of the parts and labor for the valve seal replacement ill post it up.

EDIT: ok part cost was $54, and the labor on the other hand...was put together as "bulk" with some other things that he did to the motor.

^^^ Seems cheap to me:

1. Remove valve covers, cams, shims & spark plugs
2. Pressurize a cylinder
3. Remove valve spring and other valvy parts
4. Install seal and other valvy parts
5. Repeat 2 through 4 five more times
6. Reassemble shims, cams, sparkplugs and covers
7. Collect arm and leg from me.

And that's assuming I can find a shop that will do it. This sucks.
