Does anyone have an e.z way to get the 1/2" or 3/4" (whichever it is) hose off from the block that 90's to the bottom fitting on the thermostat on a 7mgte.

That one is a PITA if its old and crusty. Remove PS res, get a set of long needle nose plyers with the 45* angle and a set of straight, wd40, and probably a razor knife.

its not that bad, you need to remove accordion hose, p/s tank and the bracket that holds it on, from there you MAY need to turn the spring clips. you will probbly need to bend the alloy plate back as'well to get to it.

here's a few pictures i have that may give you a better idea

Good stuff guys, I appreciate it. I pulled the bracket already for the p/s resevoir to where I can bend it out of the way, but I didn't disconnect the hose from it on the bottom of it because I figured fluid would come rushing out if I did. I think the only other major obstacles are wiring thats right there in the way.

Don't break off the heat shield that's in the way next to the 90deg. hose. While you are there do yourself a favor and replace the two turbo coolant hoses. Go ahead and remove the power steering reservoir and clean out the metal screen that's inside. The old tranny fluid congeals and clogs the screen. Flush the old fluid out of the rack and pinion and replace it with some new transmission fluid. It may seem like a lot to do but all these maintenance jobs are right in that area.

So is there a way to keep from spilling power steering fluid all over the place once you remove the bottom hose, or it is what it is? And the screen your talking about, it is affiliated with the power steering resevoir, and is there a special way to flush it?

don't remove the p/s tank, just move it outta the way, much cleaner that way, if you spill any pour petrol on it asap! (petrol mixes with the oil and it will wipe right up stain free on concrete)

you can remove the hose on car (i've done it!)

use needle nose plyers on the spring clips. i hate spring clips, i copped a large one to the eye about 6 months ago ended up in hospital with internal bleeding in my eye, ended up ok. but keep that in mind :) the little pricks can just jump off plyer's...

SUCCESS!!! I got the old hose off with a pair of 11" 45 degree angle needle nose pliers I picked up at the local auto parts store. I now have the motor side of the new hose attached to the fitting under the thermostat, since it was a lot easier to put on there, in hopes that it will stretch the new hose a little bit making it easier to put it onto the motor fitting. Ill let you all know how it goes.

Well The scoop is the new hose is on, it's not leaking, and I test drove my car and it's not overheating! Man does it feel good to be back on the road in it. The hose was slightly too long, and I didn't discover this until after I put it on so there is a slight kink in it but since its a molded hose its not that bad and coolant is able to freely travel through it. I tried pulling it back off to cut it a little but it seemed like I would have to damage the hose in order to get it back off and Ill be pulling the engine soon anyway so Ill just wait until then. Thanks for the help guys!
