Jdub the alcohol being an oxygenate is the point, it will not give you better gas millage as everyone has seen from using E85 or other alcohol based fuels. i found that info on another site totally not related to the acetone thing but more about fuels and gas. you can get better millage but not having oxygenates in the fuel. If i can find the exact section again i will quote it here for you

The reason for the lower mileage is alcohol contains less energy than gasoline per gallon...you will go less number of miles per gallon as a result. The more alcohol mixed into the gasoline, the more the effect. You are very correct...you will get less gas mileage using E85.

When I was talking about it as an oxygenate, I didn't mean to imply increased mileage...it does improve combustion, but does not give you the same amount of power per stroke. It will be a more complete burn due to the oxygen and reduce emissions though. Plus the higher octane will better resist knock.

yep

check out John Reeds E85 project supra for that. Less MPG but more power potential (105 octane is good for something!).

Same, same with IJ's LP gas powered motor...less energy per liter, but more power overall due to being able to run insane boost and dynamic compression levels. Not to mention all the other "tricks" IJ built into his motor ;)

Actually Myth Busters did do a show on this...saw it on a repeat not long ago. The conclusion: BUSTED!

What's to recap? I watched the show...they tried acetone in the gas...no effect. Actually got a little less mileage, but that could be from a lot of things. As could people seeing increased mileage...that could be a lot of things too. Read post #36.

Personally, I don't see how it could possibly work. If you want to do it, have at it.
