check engine light

I am getting a check engine light. It comes off and on, when the light comes on my car sounds really raspy and feels slow, I also get random fuel cuts. When the light is off my car runs strong, no fuel cuts. My diagnostic port is all corroded and no one has a plug to fit it. How can I check to see what the light means>????

Sure it's corroded and not die-electric grease?

If I remember correctly mine was a bit corroded too, scrape it off, you need to use a piece of wire and jump te1 and e1-the engine light will flash accordingly giving you the code.

yeah, saw that right after and realized my entire world had been turned upside down-so much more to that site than I thought...lol
