Check engine codes

Well a few days ago I did the diagnostics with a paper clip and got the codes for my throttle position sensor and my knock sensor.

My first question is how could my TPS sensor be bad if it works? I mean I push the pedal further and it clearly dumps more fuel.

And if my knock sensor is bad is it possible to replace it with a frequency sensor so it's not always putting out signals?

Any help appreciated

your tps might just need to be adjusted. check it following the tsrm if it doesnt fall within spec.. then replace. and the knock sensors are most likely the wiring.. either re-wire it following the guide on here or buy shaeff's re-wire kit.

Right but I believe the knock sensors in the 7mge are broad frequency sensors. New cars use a sensor that only picks up the certain frequency that it needs to pick up. But I'll check the wiring since it's just that one wire. Thanks. And I'll try adjusting the tps. I have a feeling it's set too open cause my idle is pretty high

Okay thanks for the help. I wasn't sure if the knock sensor was 7mge specific and there aren't too many supras or cressidas in the junkyard. But the place is crawling with celicas and camrys. But only 92-93 celicas have knock sensors. The others use map sensors and variable distributor caps. I'll take a look around though

Sounds good chris. I'll give you my number on facebook and you can call me or someshit and we can see what's up. Yeah I've never done sensor wiring so I'll have to look into it and see what's going on there

Sorry for the double but is there originally a spark plug cover that sits between the valve covers? All I find for wires are deep well with a top cap on them and I figured there's a plug cover but it always goes missing like the 4g63 haha. Any idea?

Yeah there's usually a plate in between the valve covers. It is also a gasket that is meant to seal the oil galley plugs (hex plugs on TOP, bottom ones are coolant and should never be touched). They generally leak afters so many miles of the gasket material becoming brittle. The previous owner may have discarded that and used FIPG or RTV to stop the oil from gushing out.

If you need parts, I have a whole engines worth :)

are you parting out that other motor? i don't wanna take parts off it if you're selling it. and yeah i'm totally missing that plate but everything is sealed good so i don't have any oil spurts
