If the autozone one is made by pioneer, it won't work. It is spaced wrong, will put your driveshaft at the wrong angle, and break all kinds of shit. Ask me how I know. ha.

Anyway. Try getting some super fast windsheild urethane, finding a semi-decent one, and filling the boot with that stuff. It's held on my car for two years now with zero problems.

I know it sounds like crap.... the rubber is hollow that holds the bearing. The rubber is usually the part that fails. I cut a few little bitty holes in mine, and filled the rubber surround with the urethane to stiffen it up just a little and reinforce it.

Would that fix excessive play? When I grab my DS and give it a shakedown it has lots of play, and it thuds when shifting.
