car wont hold idle, but does with starter fluid

my car starts, but it wont hold an idle and it dies immediately, but if i spray starter fluid into the intake for a few seconds its starts up perfectly then starts bogging and idle surges up and down.

i think this is a vacuum leak but i wasnt able to find it, could the intake manifold gaskets be causing this? because i redid the vac lines and still the same thing, mechanical timing is slightly slightly off, ignition timing is fine at 10

what could the problem be?

sounds like your AFM is unplugged. maybe injectors not plugged in? if you were pulling off vaccuum lines you could have tugged a connector for an injector.

have you checked the ISC? check and clean that per the TSRM, as well as the TPS calibration.

yes intake manifolds could cause sparatic idle. unmetered air does odd things...

i never took off the tps, i took off the throttle body [7mge] along with the tps, also didnt mess with the AFM, as both were working correctly before the hg job, i did take off hte ISC valve, will check that again, but i can hear a whistling noise which seems to be coming from the bottom intake manifold, also when i press on the gas, the car does not react and simply drops idle and dies. [injectors should be good]

nm, i still have the problem but theres another thread that is quite similar. i think that the leaky manifold has to be the problem.

yeah i had this problem as well just after i changed my engine. You'll probably need to seal up the ISCV again and where the intake meets the runners (i assume that's where you took it off)..

Just put a straw on the end of the starting fluid can and spray it directly over the flanges, you'll probably find the area in 2 seconds. However, if it doesn't even idle at all without help it sounds like you've got a major leak or some other problem too.. you didnt forget to put the gasket back on did you? it's easy done, i nearly forgot my exhaust manifold gasket lol.
