Ok, after seeing dirty cum looking substance under my oil cap and water out the exhaust after replacing blown radiator I'm gearing up for my first HG replacement job. I have been doing research for the last few weeks trying to learn all I can from others trials and tribulations one thing I'm not sure on. When I take my head off to get it surfaced I plan to install new valve springs, re grind the valves in the seats, check lifter clearances, re shim if necessary, and install new seals both cam and valve. If I'm leaving anything out please let me know as well. What I really dont understand is when I re assemble the head and put it back on how do i know the timing will be correct at the cams? I realize that the block should be at tdc on the compression stroke in #1 cyl (correct me if wrong please) and crank pulley should be set at 0 on the metal plate. and the timing gears have alignment marks on them to match the timing cover and all that goes together in that manner. but is there only one way for the cam gears to go on the cams themselves?
