cam position sensor

the green 4 wire conector from the harness to c.p.s. broke on my 87 mkIII. could anyone tell me what color wires connect so i can be sure to splice them back together correctly.

Can't remember for sure but the cps side green wire goes to the red wire, blue wire goes to the red wire cps side, yellow goes to the orangish/yellow wire, and black goes to the white wire. I just hardwired my cps wires for the same reason.

If you have to, you can trace the wires with a voltmeter from the ECU.
My wires were hard to indentify it looked like a I had a very dirty orange wire, 2 blacks and a dark red(harness side)

See that's the one freaking thing I never got. Why can't they use the same dang wire color throughout the entire length of a connection?

Yea, even on my 90, the colors are different but they still dont match up on either side.

Maybe you ought to stop thinking in terms of wire colors and start thinking in terms of signals. There are only four of them you know. That way you might actually learn something useful...
