Build Update

RS : Man I have never had a problem with this ride. I'm the 2nd owner. I bought it from a 70 year old Lawyer. The records from porsche were immaculate. I take it as stated every 15k miles and pay $500.00 to have the oil changed and have the auto inspected for anything and everything. Unless it's a real part, porsche takes care of me and they do a lot better job than toyota does.

As for the supra. We'll see what it does when it breathes again. It's going to be my DD. HOPEFULLY.

Had to work on the blazer today.
I hadn't any idea how long it had been sinse I used sae, until today.
I had a hard time not using the mm tools.

Nearly 5pm here so I'm going to call it a day.

Alright for those of you reading.

The head is here. It's ready to go on I just need my wife to get back from her business trip so she and I can put it on.

It's kinda cool to have her help at times. This way she'll be interested in actually going to the track.

I placed a wally plastic bag over the timing belt as to keep it from any lubricants. I even placed a zip tie on it.

Starters back in. I need to get to work on my fuel pump and gas tank. So I can get it back in the car.

The head is on,

I had to remove 4 of the rear studs to get it to slot.

It fell like I shot it through the heart.

I have aquired a new 1/2 in drive 14.mm 12 point socket to get the bolts on the studs.

I went to every parts house in town and never found a single socket ended up getting a 1/2 inch drive set that is all but worthless. Because all I have in 1/2 inch is a torque wrench and a breaker bar. I also bought a 5 inch extention just in case.

I'm painting a bit today but I'll get a pic of the progress on the engine wich is stuck at the exhaust manifold setting up and the fuel rail. Those are next so you can see there isn't much to see just yet.

I will say that the HKS stopper gasket torqued to 85lbs. Is quite a awesome sight in and of it self. Especially after waiting all winter to do this.

I was gapping the denso plugs and the iridium tips kept breaking so I bought a new set of plugs and a quallity gapper. So they are gapped to 0.43. You could also go to 1.1mm.

For those of you that don't know. The 1/2 inch drive torque wrench makes the socket to large on the o.d. to fit into the head with the cams in. So the 3/8 drive is a better choice the socket fits inside the head nicely and you have to play with the cam gears, and it was still a snug fit on the #10 stud.

As of now I am awaiting a transport truck to pull up from knoxville any day now. My buddy is supposed to be making those arrangements. I simpley don't have the time.

I was thinking while mowing the lawn that an MSD ignition may be really cool in the car. But Alot of these porsche guys aren't into that $hit.

The 911 is a totally different animal all together. It's a foreighn land underneath that thing.

Oh I hear you. The cams were installed when I picked the head up from the machinist. I thought seriously anout taking them out. But I knew he had them installd right and I didn't really have anywhere to hang them up and my table is of the makeshift breed so I didn't even want them lying on it.

I should have some pics up tonight. I let my old lady do that stuff sinse she knows how and I don't.

What the hell kind of tool do I need to check the timing belt tension?? My tsrm says to tighten the belt to 175 lbs.

A belt tension tool. If your spring is not worn on the tensioner, you don't really need to do that check. Rolling the engine over through the cycle will tell you if you did it correctly.

The machinist torqued down the cam caps? I haven't seen them do it before. But I never asked them to do it.

The cams were on the head so that all I had to do was install the cam seals and basically just put the head back together, i.e. the timing belt cover and the rear of the head.

He also lost some of the gear that was attached to the head so I had been buying nuts and bolts for misc things.

I know some of you are wanting some pics.
I have simply not made the time to get them taken and posted.
I'm trying to wait till it is back together and running.

The auto still makes me work it at its' pace. If I push it to hard it starts pushing back.

I did figure out the walbro 12 volt wire in. It was like it was time to do it or something. Because all of the other times I have looked at it and the instructions...., it may as well been in pigme or something.

My tension spring is nice and stiff. The idle tensioner pulley is supposed to be torqued to 36 flbs. I turned it lose and let the spring have it and then I used a deep well socket and applied a crescent wrench to the socket and applied force to tighten the belt while I held the wrench on the socket during the tightening.

Any thoughts are welcome.

Alright. The walbro is installed. The tank is in the car again.
I am waiting on a knock sensor from toyota. Should be in tomorrow.

Then I can start finishing off the combustion chamber and start laying the wiring harness.

You cats are gonna have to wait for the pics till it's done. The build is just constantly moving and I have only been taking pics of what I need from toyota.
