Brake pad shims

My brakes squeak badly even though the pads were replaced only like a month or two ago. I did some research and found out that these cars use some special shims and unless they are on the car the brakes squeal. Can anyone give me some info about these shims or any other recommendations?

Ive ran with out them and had no problems.

What pads are you using and did you break them in?

Clean, clean again and clean the brakes one more time. (the sliders, plus the bracket where the sliders are put it (the pad should fit nicely, not too tight in there, or else it'll squeal)). :)
That's my experience with rust on brake components. Also running wihtout shims. Once I put the plates in that go agains the pad... well, they flew off someway :D

I never use shims on my cars, I just throw them away, they always come loose and touch the rotor or come off completely. I have never had noise problems except my supra that makes a lot of noise when their cold, but thats probably because the pads, IIRC they are carbon kevlar or some other high end pad, been a long time since I put them on.
