Brake light issue

So as stated i'm having a bit of a brake light problem. Its with and 89 MK3, the problem is...when I have the parking light on they work, but when I go to press the brake pedals the lights to not brighten, non of them. I also own a 86 MK3, I put both of the the brake cluster in the 86 and they brighten when I press the brake pedal. So I have been researching a bit and i'm thinking something might be wrong with my "brake sensor". Has anyone had a problem like this. Can anyone give some insight on how to get them working again. And thanks guys.


Also should I try something like this ?

Personally i wouldnt hack up the cars body harness. I would just get a new sensor if thats the problem.

I would check the brake light sensor tho first which is attached to the pedal.

Ok and what would I do to check the sensor?

Check and see that the brake light switch is plugged in. That is the one on the pedal. You can check to see if it closes with a voltmeter.
