The sticks.
i started my car today and it made some blue smoke and had an unsteady idle. then it just all goes away and runs smooth after like 30 seconds. last time this maybe lasted 10 seconds.

idles at 1500 too.

its a recent jdm swap. haven't driven the motor more than 10 miles. wtf?..

i just sits in my garage because i don't have my license back yet.

i have a feeling i might have pushed it too hard one night i took my friend for a ride somehow.

it wasn't completely warmed up that night, maybe 1/4 way up on temp gauge, but i didn't floor it/slam gears/launch/rev past like 5k.

that night i remember a hesitation around 4k, but figured it was fuel related being the tank was nearly empty and the car sat for 3 years before i finished it. after reading about clogged fuel filters and such.

yes i know it was dumb to push my car at all before break in, but i didn't think i was overdoing it.

please help, my baby is in pain :nono::aigo::1zhelp::cry:

If you didnt change rings there really is nothing to break in, Although you should treat a new motor(to you) as if its a fresh motor.

Wait till your car get to opt temps to start pushing it.

pressure = heat and too much heat too quick on cold metal can crack.

Does it smoke blue until it warms up? Since its a jdm motor and its been sitting a while prolly chances are your valve seals are toast. Blue smoke is oil.

Also check you tps.

ah alright. sounds like it would be my valve seals but why the strange idle for a little. and it only smokes for a minute at most. i don't think its my tps because i recently checked it like 2-1 mile drives ago to fix another issue, but i can check again. is a 1500 idle normal on warm up?

and if i don't replace the valve seals.. will it eventually ruin something? or can i hold off until i at least do the head gasket in a couple months?

Watch your oil. When mine were bad and i drove it cold it would eat like 2 qts until it warmed up.

When the engine cold starts it should rev up to 1300-1500 rpms and then slowly go down to idle.

Blue smoke is oil but I have seen shades of blue but it was not oil, it was from the car running really rich. No cat and unleaded fuel will burn your eyes if it is running rich. Do a simple valve seal test, run the car until it gets warm and goes to idle, let it idle for a minute or two and give it a light rev. If it pours blue smoke, then it will be your valve seals. That works a lot of the time. If it is constantly pouring blue smoke, it can be your rings are bad and it is passing oil. A compression test can help to know the shape of your engine too.

well it did not smoke when i started it today. no weird idle either.. and i drove it around. runs perfect, smooth. maybe just because it sat for like 4-5 days??? -_-

Could be. Mine will blow a hint of blue at cold start up for a sec when it sits for a week.
