Are you thinking of having custom cams ground, all of the cams available require no grinding. Where are you going with this?

You just happen to about right. In fact, I have found that it will vary from head casting to head casting. I have fit 9.2mm before with out having to make clearance, but then on some of the castings, I had to grind the head for 9mm cams.
