Hey everyone, my name's Kenny and I am new to the supra world. I just picked up an 89 targa, turbo, automatic that was converted to 5 speed. the car has been through a few hands, to say the least but is still in decent condition and i can see the potential. From what i know the head gasket has been replaced and thats about it. The motors sounds good. the turbo smokes a little and there's an egr block off plate. but the wiring harness and existing sensors are "rigged"... Which leads me to my question. What are the bare essentials needed to get this car running like it should. i have the boost gauge hooked up to the variable vacuum off the throttle body and it will boost to about 7-8 pounds but start to break up and buck. I'm thinking is a vacuum problem to the vsv valve. but not sure.. the vacuum diagram i got includes the egr valve which is non existant. any know of an existing forum abouth this or know how to get around this vacuum problem? any help is appreciated

the stock boost gauge sensor gets its reading from the manifold not the tb. best bet would be to hook up everything to stock and go from there. heres a good vacuum diagram. the boost gauge gets its vacuum from the very back of the manifold by the firewall and is not in that pic.

yea, these cars seem to be pretty picky, but once you dial it in, nothin on the road compares imo. replace ALL the vacumme lines, and do not go cheapo on parts. ive been dicking with mine for over 5 years, and finally got off my lazy ass this past summer and put effort into putting it how i like it, and this past weekend i went to zankoku's car meet which is 3 hours plus away, and i still cannot belive the mileage i got, im not stock mind you, and out of a full tank, "and not the kind filled to the filler" 346miles outta a tank. and no fuel light yet. "and yes it works" and it NEVER misses a beat. you will love this car. :)

thanks dudes. I'll try and put everything back to stock. a lot of the original sensors look like they've been deleted.. so i'll have to work around it. What is the safest amount of boost a stock 7mgte will hold with minimal problems? Ie, stock injectors and turbo. and any other tricks i should know about? thanks
