at what point do you not trust the stock tach anymore?

probable a really dumb question, but after what upgrades do you give up faith in the stock tach? im even looking for replies from aftermarket ecu/piggyback users here. im torn between maft pro / mega squirt / aem (not too fond of them for seeing so many hondas wearing there aem badges.)

i would like to upgrade the ecu when i do my rebuild and massive upgrade starting very soon / when money starts building up again.

so when do you give up with it? im really only looking for around 500rwhp, but i know ill go for more. im just that kinda guy. should i add a new tach to the list or wait till i peg the stock unit(really dont want to get that far.)

I think the stock tach will do just fine...I could be wrong though...

I would say that as long as you aren't running more than your stock rev limiter allows then it should be fne as long as its calibrated and all like it should be.

i do want a higher rev limiter and would rather not trust a quick look at the tack and under estmate my shift due to red spots.

just a question i was thinking about.

yeh... same here.... i'm actually convinced mine is off by a few hundred rpms...

I think mine was monkeyd with... its off about 450ish RPMS according to the SAFC display.

I have checked various tachs with a pickup, and have never seen one that was a few hundred RPM off, let alone a Supra.

My tach is a little slow to react if you rev it too fast. I initially thought that my rev limiter was incorrectly set at 7000. It turned out that it was really revving up to 7500.
