Well, suppose that if a machinist were to mic' them up and find that they are well within their spec' limits...would you still want to change them?
The last head I had mic'ed, had guides that easily passed.
Another machinist even told me that it would be unlikely that we would have to change the guides.
He told me that when I asked for an estimate on rebuilding it.
I guess this could go for one of those debates where some may say "replace it," while others say, "inspect it first, then replace as necessary."
EDIT:
Anyhow, IIRC, the labor of changing guides is more costly than the actual guides.
That is something I would not have attemted on my own!
I guess I would have just asked my local machine shops.
