Any data recovery experts?

Well, I let backing up my files go a little too far and my old HP desktop took a giant dump on me. I had to get a new hard drive installed, but the old hard drive has a bunch of pictures of one of our sons when he was 1.5 to about 3.

It was before we started doing online backups and the computer wasn't too fast so we didn't use it much. Of course, I know I should have been backing them up the whole time, but are there any data recovery experts out there somewhere?

Anybody with computer experience or recommendations for some companies out there? My local guy knows a company a little south of me, but they'd charge $1800 for it.

Thanks for any help!:1zhelp::aigo:

I have found one company up in NY that has been rated pretty well with free shipping and a free estimate, so I think I'll try this and see what they say. Has anyone else had this issue before?

Send Doward a PM - this is part of what he does for a living :) I'm sure he can give you some pointers before you spend money on an unknown company

Doward - I did not know you do data recovery. I do also. If you dont have time to try it let him know I will try and get the files. Free for the supra-friends. I am tired of doing mostly child pornography cases.. we put them in jail but it will be nice to search for files that are not all bad..

Thanks, guys! Dow, can you PM a mailing address and I'll get it out to you on Monday? Also, anything I need to do as far as packaging the HD out to you (bubble wrap, etc.)?

Well, it's in a nice bubble wrap package, but it's not 2". The lady was nice enough to stamp FRAGILE all over it, but we'll see.

Crosses fingers...

Peanuts and styrofoam work better than bubble wrap if you haven't sent it out already. Bubble wrap is great until it starts popping and you don't want those heads crashing on platters inside the drive.

(I'm a computer tech for a living myself :p)

Fragile stamps mean nothing to people at UPS. I see boxes get thrown, stepped on, dropped, almost anything you can imagine on a daily basis.
