So after swapping the jdm engine and torquing the bolts to 70 or 75 i think. It was fine until the other day the coolant light turned on, after that the car looses coolant and i have to refill every other day. So i take it to the mechanic and he says its the headgasket or head. I was wondering what would be the best way to fix it, obviously a new headgasket and machine the head, but what else i want to know how i can do it right so i dont have to worry about this again. What headgasket to use? are the autozone headgaskets shit? ARP headbolts which ones do i need? around how much is it to machine a head, and anything else i should look at or change due to a bhg. thank you.

machine both head and block. use a mls head gasket whatever brand is good they are basically the same.. unless u wanna pay a little extra and get a hks stopper type which is like the most expensive type you can get but will probably never blow on u as long as the prep work is done right.. as long as your machinest makes sure the mating surfaces are prepped for mhg.
use arp head studs

and as for cost of machining. it depends on where you go and where u live. like for me to machine both block and head it cost me $250
you should call around and get local quotes.. that would be the best for u

also dont buy a mhg until the machining is done because you dont know how thick u will need in order to keep ur compression ratio stock

um will u be doing the work yourself?

the mechanic is, and i just want to head to seal it is a N/A so i dont think i need a MHG or HKS stopper? Does the block have to be machined as well? So would a Fel-Pro be fine?

ooohhh ok. didnt realize it was n/a.. well if ur only machining the head then definately go with a composite type. felpro or stock toyota. arp head studs or bolts should be fine.
if u have tons of money.. go with mhg lol

a bolt is a bolt lol like stock. and the studs is a stud and a nut. studs is a little more expensive but offer more accurate torque values. i'd go with studs. price difference is not much at all

mmk thank you :] so since its N/A just getting the head machined with a fel-pro hg and arp studs would be fine? is 75 lbs good for it to be torqued?
