Okay, so i am looking at buying an 89 turbo targa 5speed that has a BHG.Its deffiantely a BHG thats the problem (overheated, losing coolant, white smoke from exhaust,etc..)but the car has been sitting for about 5 months since the BHG. When it blew he had to drive the car like 10 miles back home. Anyways i wanted to hear it run before i commited to buying it to see if there was any rod knock. He cranked it up and idled it for a min and then revved a couple times to right at and maybe a little above 2500rpms. I heard no rod knock..Before i buy it should i crank it up again and rev it higher than 2500?
So, my question. Is there anyway that it blew the head gasket ONLY between a cyl. and a coolant passage and coolant did not get in the oil? I know if i get it im getting the head redone and installing a MHG and ARPs. Im sure once i fix the BHG and run it it will start knocking like 5miles down the road.Oh btw..this car/motor/tranny has 180,xxx miles on it. Any input is welcome.
Cliffs:Want to buy car with BHG, guy drove it 10 miles home, sat 5 months, no rod knock.
