it would be easier than building one, but it would require a total reprogram and wont be easy as "1,2,3, and 4". im not knocking the idea, just saying that it would require more work.

It would work on cars just fine without any reporgramming. What the shift indicator does it it just takes a ratio of rpm vs speed. One wire to the tach signal (0-1billion rpms) and another to a speed signal (voltage pulse signal). It saves the ratio between the two, so no matter what rpm or mph your at, you will always have a ratio. for instance if first gear is 1000 rpm for 10 mph, that's a 100:1 ratio. If your driving at 4536 rpm, your mph will be 45.36 mph. Always a ratio of 100:1. Second gear would be 1000 rpm to 18 mph, 95.8:1 ratio and so on with all the other gears. That's what the shift indicator keeps for every gear. Whatever ratio the shift rom sees, it displays that gear.
It's quite accurate and is the same setup used in the more exspensive systems, such as Motec, Stacks, and any other high end stuff. Easy as 1-2-3-4....
I thought ya'll were talking about making pie slices on the speedo showing the "shift points" for the diff gears...
First pie slice was green and went 0-30, so when you got out of the green slice you shifted... next slice was blue... 30-60... shift when u get out of blue....
I got a headache reading all of that. But I'm curious what the benefits of something like this could be... or is it more for the jdm tyteness in all of us?

and, all the customer would have to do is tell what the make and model of his car is and you adjust the high and low values accordingly, design the overlay or whatever for the speedo and thats basically it.
I mean, that would be a lot more K.I.S.S. than all the other stuff.

Isnt there voltage regulated/related shift lights out there already? Just simple led typelights that you adjust using a pot switch.
