This is true, But some ways of making energy can be cleaner or greener than others. Like wind power, tidal power, solar power, and I even saw a generator the other day that is built into the roadway (on TV) that when your car drives over it, it drops and spins a generator. Supposably you can not even tell when you drive over it. Just one can supply enough power for a few houses when placed in a populated area.

'Electric power generation in the USA does not use oil. Coal, hydro, nuclear, solar, and natural gas are typical sources for generating electricity. Power generation plants, even coal burning ones, are inherently more efficient and less polluting than vehicles due to economies of scale and the ability to more efficiently remove pollutants from a smaller number of much larger fixed locations.'

But yeah I hear ya.

FYI, that is actually a Lotus Elise with a different body and an electric motor. The Tesla is being assembled by Lotus (see page 2 of the Wired article). I think it's cool but for that much money you could almost buy two Lotus Elises which get decent gas mileage and still have great performance.
